I write because I enjoy writing. But I also love it when I know people have appreciated my work.
I guess I could be more tactical or cynical (depending on how you view it) and friend loads of people to increase the number of readers and votes. I think some of my stories have been pretty darn good and it is a little irksome to read some poorly written stories with high numbers of views/votes. But I made a decision a while back to only have people as friends who I actually talk to.
But as with everything in life I think you need people close to you who will be honest with you. People you trust to give an honest opinion and not flatter you. Theirs are the only opinions that really matter. I'm lucky to have two such people on here.
I would imagine as far as views go that the majority of views come from non-members. Only members can vote and comment. So yes the analogy of friends would work there.
I think the true verdict of whether a story is a success or not makes up a concensus of a lot of factors....views, comments, ratings, how the author feels about the story, etc.
Somewhat disturbingly, anything in the category with the tags "daddy daughter" gets a shit load of views. Hey - give the public what they want I guess. I've never read one myself so I won't pass comment if they're actually any good.
Apparently 603 authors on here have the Famous Story badge - which is about 1 in 10 authors.
But that doesn't really tell the whole story. It's getting much harder to become the author of a famous story. Those who have joined Lush in the last 3 years have about a 1 in 20 chance of being the author of a famous story, that rises to 1 in 100 if you joined in the last 12 months. For authors who joined over three years ago, about 1 in 4 have the Famous Story badge.

Stories in some of the niche categories I doubt have any or at the most just a few. Haven't really looked to see.
I would be interested in seeing a list of how many Famous Stories are in each category.
There are 5487 authors on Lush. 1396 of which have joined in the last 12 months.
Only 17 of those have managed to get a Famous Story.
Only 2 of those have managed to do it with stories that weren't Incest or Taboo: Kinky_becky and Nawtygirl7 who wrote Wife Lover stories

3 Items up and my first story ever written in general has over 60,000 views and is well on it's way to becoming a legendary story.
Yes it's in "that" section but for my first time putting pen to paper with the intent to write a story I am extremely proud of myself.
I currently have 34 famous stories and several other's that are on the verge of becoming famous stories.
There are some amazing writers on this site.

OK, I just saw a story that had over 1 million views that was loaded 21 Dec 2013. How is that even possible?
I am blessed to have one "Famous" story in the Taboo category and another one with nearly 22,000 views in the MILF category. I am still amazed at them both!
I still get stoked when I get a new Famous Story. I am less than 60 views on one that will give me 30 Famous Stories, and that does not include 3 Legendary Stories. My most viewed story has just passed 220,000 views.

I now officially have 30 Famous stories, not including 3 Legendary Stories. I do have 2 more stories with over 29,000 views heading toward Famous. I am sure not every person reads the entire story, but probably a high percentage that click on a story do read it. It's really exciting to have a lot of people read your artistic erotic creation. It is very inspiring.
I have 2 famous stories and a third only 350 views away. None close to becoming legendary though.
I have 28 famous stories and one hopefully by the end of the year will be legendary.

I'm a little over 1,000 views away from getting enough counts for my 5th Legendary story. It's amazing how fast the numbers can creep along.
My most viewed story sits at 222,000 at the moment.
I have two Famous Stories that are around the 32000 mark (so nowhere near Legendary). I think all my stories put together have around 100000 views, so...
That's famous enough for me anyway.
