Bloodstone, green jasper dotted with bright red spots of iron oxide, was treasured in ancient times and served for a long time as the birthstone for March. Medieval Christians often used bloodstone to carve scenes of the crucifixion and martyrs, for which reason it was also dubbed the martyr's stone. According to the legend about the origin of bloodstone, it was first formed when drops of Christ's blood fell and stained some jasper at the foot of the cross. Even today, finely pulverised bloodstone is used as a medicine and aphrodisiac in India. Perhaps that explains why it is now rather difficult to find fine specimens of bloodstone on the market. Bloodstone is mined in India, Australia, and the United States.

cup Milk
cup Frozen Yogurt
whole Banana (frozen)
1 teaspoon Honey
cup Strawberry (frozen)
Combine ingredients in a blender, starting with liquid ingredients. Add ice for texture or other fruits, protein, or flax seed as desired. Though best with honey, sweeteners also work fine. If you're in the mood, a little rum wouldn't be amiss.
Red Apple Martini
1 ounces Apple Vodka
1 ounces Apple Juice
1 teaspoon Grenadine
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a martini class, rimmed with sugar and garnished with a red apple slice and a maraschino cherry. To rim a glass with sugar, first pour sugar onto a large plate, then wet the rim of the glass and spin it in the sugar. Immediately after, strain the martini into the glass before it can warm.
