Notifications (the little bell icon)

I sometimes notice I will have a notification or perhaps several such. When I click on the bell, half a dozen or less will appear, I might select one and poof - it disappears and I have no idea really what that notification concerned, as I can't search for previous notifications and when I clicked on it - it just disappeared.

About 25% of the time when I click on a notification, I get shunted off to wherever it is referring to and I can see what it is notifying me about. 75% of the time, the notification just vaporizes, leaving me wondering... wtf was that about.

There's no searching for prior notifications, I take it. And we just have to deal with the situation as it is and has been. Even if I do notice a username I might then search for that username and guess what....

Yeah, that username isn't found when using the advanced search method.

Notifications are a pain in the neck LOL

This comes up a fair bit. Some notifications are simply FYI's so once you have seen them they disappear. Others are clickable events that you can see such as a forum post (a thread that you are watching). Likes and Comments you can view via Interactions.

A problem I am seeing is when I have a lot of unread notifications.

Just now there were 83 notifications, I opened it up and as usual, it showed ten of them.

I looked at them and none were interesting to me, and all were from the same person so I clicked 'dismiss 10'. What happened was there were ten but from the same person again.

I did this a few times and the list that showed was the very same list with the same posting date. it's not deleting the item showing but from the bottom of the list, which I hadn't seen yet. I went through the entire list of 83, seeing only the first ten.

Hmm I'm not so wildly popular that I've ever had more than a handful that I scroll through in the little popup window. If it only shows 10 at a time and starts at the most recent, then it probably should be looked at to see if improvements can be made.

I'll flag this to the dev team, thanks for raising it.

The easiest way you can check all these is to go to "interactions" via your profile icon in the top right.

Not a huge deal, but notifications seem to be lagging. I'll have something new on my interactions page, but no notification. Then I'll come back some time later, and the notification will finally show up. Can't remember whether the one from two hours ago showed up ( I don't believe it did ) but I had one 4 minutes ago that still hasn't hit the notification bell.

Like I said, not a huge deal, but I thought I'd bring it up in case something needs a reboot.

The notification's counter is always off by 1 for me. Like now it says I have one notification, but when I click the icon there are none. There's some seriously weird counting going on, like when the counter says I have X notifications and I click one of them, then the counter jumps to X - 2 and then + 1 again. I bet this weird behaviour is the reason why I'm stuck with the invalid 1 count now, as there's probably some rule that prevents the -2 step to go below 0 in the first place.
A check to prevent negative counts may make sense by itself, but the -2 step, with the +1 correction, seems pretty bonkers. And the latter is probably some hack to try and fix yet another state issue, of which Lush v2 has many. Good old page reloads, the web's default way of navigating, could have prevented almost all of Lush's state issues. But we can't have a navigation bar that reloads when we navigate the site of course. Oh well.

I have never seen the counter with a negative value or seen a report of it until now. If that happens again please kindly screenshot and send to the support desk.

In terms of the counter being wrong you can usually reset it, as long as you do have one or more entries, by using the Clear All option.

No, I said it doesn't go negative. I said you can often see it go -2+1 when you click a notification, instead of just -1. So, like when you have 5 notifications and you click one, you see the counter go from 5 to 3 and then back to 4, instead of just from 5 to 4, which would be the logical way.

I'm not sure if there's a check that prevents the counter form going negative, but given that I've seen it do the weird -2+1 steps on many occasions, it would explain why the counter would get stuck on 1 after one clicks their last notification

The invalid 1 is gone now btw, but yesterday I couldn't get it to disappear. Even clearing all Lush's local site data from my browser didn't fix it then.

Like you said, the clear all option is only there if you still have notifications, but the issue only appears when you have none anymore. So that's not a fix at all.

I post in many Groups and sometimes comment on media on member profile pages. I regularly get two to three hundred notifications a day to wade through. I have come to understand that if a member likes or comments on a post, the notification will take you to that post and or comment. However, if you have commented in a member's media folders on their profile page, the notification disappears, as you say. I also find this a bit useless and don't see any reason why the super high-tech AI platform can't direct us back to the comment or interaction so we can see the reply. Regardless of who, what, where or why!

Just an FYI, the notifications still don't work. Recently, the bell showed ten notifications. I open one, and it drops to four. I've also seen it drop with me doing nothing. The number just changes. I realize interaction like comments, etc. are still in the interaction section, but notifications about group messages aren't there.

Looking now I see your notifications are clear, i.e. none. The 'activities' aspect of the site is currently being redeveloped for release, I believe, in early 2024.

I just cleared it. My post was just in case it had dropped off your radar. i have no idea of the complexity of running a site with this much activity. I'm not complaining. I don't have that much temerity.

Glad I found this thread, I continuously have a 2 notifications bell icon with nothing underneath it. I'll try that clear all method. Thank you.

Just for information: I have found with many notifications that you can click and dismiss the first ten, but if you refresh the page, another 10 will appear. I've used that technique a lot.
