Bare back always sounds wonderful, but even if you are sure about your partner, there are sanitary reasons to wear a condom. To me, it's just an automatic with anal sex. Not having to deal with the potential mess is reason enough.
If (and it's a big if) I ever get to the point of having sex with a guy, it will be safe sex all the way. I may even insist on a condom for BJs t least until I know the guy well, tempting as bareback might be. Even BB porn is questionable to me. That's the thing, more and more bareback films are being released, often with young guys from eastern Europe, who may or may not know of the risks. What I do know is barebacking is making a big comeback, just check your local CL.

People have short memories. We now have a generation out there who completely missed the horrific first wave of AIDS/HIV (now 30 plus years past) and the subsequent push to make sex safer. To many in the West, HIV is now a developing world problem. How do we overcome this apathy? I'm not sure that there's a simple answer.

Well here's the thing, HIV is on the increase in the both the gay world and straight world. The problem is that there are now porn companies such as Raw that are either paying established stars more or recruiting from places like Eastern Europe to make bareback. Not a very good example to make.

That's a different issue and not something inherent to bareback porn. Bad examples can be found with any topic.

I really don't see how it's a different issue when it's promoting unsafe sex. You can't really believe that it doesn't influence young gay guys to have sex without a condom!
We're just going to disagree on this one. As I said, fantasy and reality are two entirely different things. Porn is fantasy. Anyone that can't make the distinction is the problem -- not the porn. Anyone that can only mimic what they see is the problem. Anyone deciding to overlook the related health concerns is making the decision to do so. People, not things, are ultimately responsible for their own actions. Young people of any gender and sexual orientation have to learn to deal with a world full of all sorts of influences. Hiding the influences is not a solution. It's a band-aid for one of the symptoms.

My problem with your post is that you seem to think that everyone, including a young kid, is as intelligent as you so obviously are! Well I know that there a lot that aren't and I also know that there are a lot of guys that will take advantage of that.
I use the example of Eastern Europeans as they were the ones that were easily lured by the thought of easy money in countries that were quite poor. Now it seems that more and more youngsters in the US and Western Europe are willing to perform bareback. Reported cases of HIV are on the increase in both areas, I for one think there's a connection and I'm not alone.
I came through the worst time, more by luck than good judgement. The same can't be said about a lot of others, including a number of my friends.
So yes I won't be changing my opinion on the matter, if you'd seen a few of your friends die of AIDS you might think differently.

My intelligence is neither here nor there. People of varying levels of intelligence are certainly capable of distinguishing fantasy from reality and making sound judgement calls. I've certainly made poor judgement calls in my past and even now but the problem is always me and not what I have watched on a screen.
Again, people are ultimately responsible for their own actions, regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation. Violence, drug use, etc in media does not turn viewer into serial killers and drug addicts, etc. If one can only mimic what one sees on a screen then what's on the screen isn't the problem.
Porn is intended for adult audiences. I'm well aware that adults aren't the only ones to view porn but, again, porn isn't the problem in such situations either.
Changing porn doesn't fix the problems that you describe. It only addresses symptoms. The problems you're describing need to be addressed directly.
