Good luck to ya, Nicola.

I know it can be difficult, even though I've never been a fan of coffee (maybe drank the stuff twice in my lifetime), my hubby was a big time coffee drinker and favored the Columbian dark roast stuff. Almost a pot he would go through every morning for quite a few years. He started having bad stomach troubles and figured out it was from drinking so much coffee for so many years. He didn't quit cold turkey but weaned himself off pretty much over the course of a couple of weeks and then was done with it for good. He was still a bear to deal with some mornings for a while lol. That was a couple of years ago. The stomach problems lessened dramatically, he still gets a caffeine fix with tea or soda here and there...but he says he doesn't miss the coffee at all anymore.

Aww Good Luck with this venture! *hugs*

I hope it is something you can achieve, and I'm sure with all this support you will do just fine smile I can't say I've ever been in the same position - I just love Hot Chocolate and Squash buy the bottles :P You should make a diary or something to help with your thoughts/frustrations and you'll look back and giggle at them ;)

Day 4: no headaches, no cravings. I think with my tenacious single minded goal orientated brain, I'm going to find this easy, touch wood. I was actually having quite a few stomach issues, and they seem to be improving already.

Alcohol on the other hand, I gave up for a month, a year or so ago, it drove me up the wall. Never again!

Out of solidarity for you Nicola, I've skipped the evening coffe and had an herbal tea instead!

Thanks playmale! I'm a bit cranky today, but that's probably because it's friday and I've "had a gutful" this week.

You're welcome, and thanks for the pic! I love that her shirt doesn't say what she can't do!

It reminds me of another joke, maybe it will lift your spirits:
A priest and a rabbi are on a plane. A very goodlooking stewardess asks if she can get them anything. The rabbi orders a brandy. The priest declines and smugly says to the rabbi, "As a preist I'm not allowed to drink or fornicate." The rabbi quickly raises his hand and calls, "Miss, I didn't know I had a choice!"

I don't think I'd last a week, let alone a month.

Do not drink a lot of coffee, because so few really know how to make coffee. Having said that I must confess the I just do not function without that one large cup of strong coffee in the morning. Next somone will want to take sex and booze away too.

Best of luck to you Nic! I started drinking at least 3 cups of coffee daily when I was 12. For the last 15 years I drink on the order of 2 full pots of coffee a day, sometimes more. I definitely have caffeine withdrawal headaches in the afternoon if I cut short on my intake. Stragely enough it's never had any affect on keeping me awake.

Any time I've considered giving up coffee, smoking, drinking and doing a full "purge" and de-tox, I've always figured I would need to take a week of vacation in a tent, in the woods, alone, and without any sharp utensils LOL Any unsuspecting hikers in the woods would likely find me doing this:

Since the 21st we have had a continuous gale from W.S.W. and S.W. We had fuel to make two cups of tea apiece and bare food for two days on the 20th. Every day we have been ready to start for our depot 11 miles away, but outside the door of the tent it remains a scene of whirling drift. I do not think we can hope for any better things now. We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker, of course, and the end cannot be far. It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more.

But seriously, Day 10, no withdrawal symptoms at all.

With less stress and fewer toxins in your body, it can process alcohol a lot easier, another advantage!

Thanks SweetP!

You know, I haven't yearned for regular coffee at all. A good quality Lavazza decaf tastes almost identical to my usual brand, just the buzz isn't there.

I can live without it.

I quite smoking years ago and dropping off coffee was kinda natural consequences of that, however I did know that I will have need to lighten up cigaret from time to time and I was prepared to it but no one warned me that physical need for coffee will be this strong. I am not regular coffee drinker anymore but when my body have desire for it I just go and have date with myself and delicious espresso.

So, my suggestion would be to try and stay away from coffee as long as you can so your body will have time to do the detoxing process, maybe you can help with ginger and some herb tea or any other detoxicants..
..and don't forget about coffeee reward

I do actually. I was starting to suffer stomach pains (lower left), and I haven't had them for the last week.

It's funny when something is habitual, to be able to drop it just like that, is a bit of an eye opener. It's a test of character more than anything!

This may sound weird, but the Lavazza grounds smell like peanut butter to me.

If anyone is trying to avoid caffeine or coffee, I have a great Starbucks treat to suggest: Try a non-fat, no-foam, green tea latte, half sweetened with sugar-free hazelnut. It's extremely low calorie, little to no caffeine, and tastes like a dessert (rich and delicious). You just have to get over the fear of sounding high-maintenance when you order it.

Even more than high-maintenance I think I'd have to get over the fear of the barista questioning the presence of testicles in my trousers ordering that one....
