I hardly ever eat junk food - probably because my mother didn't allow any of us children to eat any of it until we were in our teens, and explained in detail why (shows my age somewhat!). If I ever have children of my own I will try and instill a similar averse feeling, for the good of their longterm health.

If it were vacuum sealed yes I believe it would last a lot longer, but normal food should biodegrade in the space of a week or so. Well it does looking at the contents of my fridge sometimes

Many years ago, at a different place of work, we had people leaving food in the refrigerator for too long and not taking care of it. I got fed up one time. I took a sticky note, wrote "penicillin sample 58ZW" and put it on the food.
