Temporary Tattoos: Yay or Nay?

I've recently spotted quite a few temporary tattoos while shopping online (for completely unrelated things), and although some of them can look just as good as regular tattoos made by professional artists, I couldn't help but question their fashion-validity.

On one hand, sure, they can provide a much similar look than their genuine counterparts. On the other, part of the appeal of getting inked is to permanently endorse a style/idea/philosophy of your own: you believe in something deeply enough to sport it for the rest of your fucking life.

So what's your own opinion about temporary tattoos? Are they just frivolous fun which should only be considered as such, or a lame attempt to replicate the hardcore symbolism of real tattoos? Do they turn someone into a mutable fashionista, or a spineless poser?

Thanks for sharing!
I have a few permanent tattoos, two big ones. I'd suggest someone considering their first tattoo to try a temporary tattoo to see how they like it, then proceed to the real thing if they like it.

Temporary tattoos are good for theme parties or maybe exotic vacations.

My actual tattoos are easily hidden under business attire, even business casual or doing the polo shirt thing, for career reasons. So it takes going to the pool or the beach or riding my motorcycles with sleeveless shirts to show my tattoos. My wife and I have done some temporary tattoos for vacation before.

My wife had some tattoos removed and said that was more painful than getting the tattoo in the first place. So there's a place for the temps. Give yourself some variety. Do you wear the same shirt every day of your life? Why not have the ability to change up your tattoos some?

I'd say do whatever your mood desires. Life is too short to worry about being judged by someone else. Usually, the judgers are the most shallow.
Although I have one small real tattoo, I've done temporary metallic ones for occasions like EDMs, music festivals, beach/vacation. I don't see it as any different than makeup or jewelry. Just adornments.

I think if someone was doing temporary tatts in an attempt to look tough or legit street, it backfires and looks lame, but that's more because of attitude or intention, not the tatts themselves.

I like temporary tattoos, but I refuse to get the real thing.

Those gold ones are gorgeous though!
Since I would never get a permanent tat, a temporary one might be fun for a party or going out, but tats in general are anathema to me.
Neither - never ever.

count me as a yay. i already have two tats and didn't think to give them a trial run because they are placed in areas that are easily covered by clothing. not to mention i was young and not looking too far into the future.

i plan on getting two more tattoos at some point. one will be safely out of view, but i want the other on my inner wrist. i would like to do a trial run beforehand to see how it feels to 'live with' it. this will be different because i would be much more aware of it, so i need to be sure.

temporary tattoos can be a lot of fun. i had a friend create a design on my shoulder for a party and greatly enjoyed it. it was metallic like dancing doll's pics, so it was obvious that i wasn't trying to front. getting one for some type of street cred is laughable at best - tragic at worst.

Say. Her. Name.

The gold ones would be great for parties. Oh, and Halloween. Those would be difficult for a guy to pull off other than a costume party but would be so hot on my wife.
Yay for those who want them. Nay for those who don't want them. Temporary or permanate it's a personal decision for us all. I used them to see how I like it. I did, and felt honored to have it done permanently. I have a butterfly that is Hubbie's mark of ownership.

Your wife is correct, Buz. Having a tattoo removed is much more painful than getting it. I speak from experience. I had my ex wife's name, her signature, removed from my left butt cheek. Very painful and challenging when you were trying to sit on the toilet! smile. Temporary is the way to go, maybe a henna tattoo.
I think Temp Tats are a great idea!

If I ever found one I liked I would try it out .... but the "standard" ones you can find are not something I'd use.

Perhaps this would be an awesome start up for a tattooist to have the more "unusual" temp tats.

I'd buy shares in that!

Van
Nay.

Temp only although I would consider a nice small one around my ankle. Ice worn ankle bracelets and think they're fun.

Temp only. Yay..................

Being a compete tattoo virgin, I am intrigued by the temporary tattoos, but not sufficiently that I've really looked into them.

I would, though, certainly choose temporary over permanent!

Okay for kids, but if you're an adult, go all in.

I get a henna decorative band tattoo wrapping around my thigh when in Florida. It lasts about a week. The caramel color looks good with tanned legs in shorts. smile
