Modeling is all about being judged for the perfection of your body. In my days, it was "You're too short", or "Your hips are too wide", but getting in the swimsuit edition of SI is harder than getting an Editor's Pick on Lush! Sure, Kate is ravishingly beautiful, and she's had her turn in SI, but if we're going to accept the concept of judging the creme de la creme, as we do with nearly everything, then yes, she's probably too big now. Competition is what keeps some of us us striving to be our best. Others of us see competition as unfairly judgmental and subjective. But unfair or not, being judged for being 'the best', is not going away. So Kate has to play by the same rules as the rest of the models vying for spots in SI.
I think I understand what Bethany is alluding to. It is exactly because there exists these venues of competition, that those who aspire to be the best have to conform to the subjective criteria established by these venues. SI has a 'type', a perfect ideal, and it has been presenting that standard of beauty for decades. Sure, other standards of beauty and sexiness exist that are different from the standards of SI, but the question here is specifically about the standards set by SI.
Every competitive venue has its particular judging standards. Lush has its own standards of excellence which not all of us may agree with, but this is the way the game is played. If you want to win, you have to conform to the venue in which you've chosen to compete. A grown man (or woman) knows the world he (she) lives in.
