I agree. The MFM situation where the girl is just a friend, is just hot sex, and in fact she truly gets to enjoy being the center of attention without emotional issues. In a couple situation, jealousy is an issue, though for some that may be the attraction. FMF situations seem to be more of a true menage-a-trois, all things being equal with the girls sharing their bi attraction, all 3 equally sharing with each other. I am sure it could be true in a MFM if the guys are also bi, but I'm straight, so that wouldn't work with me.
A more equal situation is 2 couples, a MFMF, a swap. But I'd suggest that the last round of sex be between the actual couples (spouses or gf/bf) as it seems to clean the emotional palate so to speak. No one leaves feeling subservient (cuckolded).
