Hello ladies. I have a serious question to ask. I plan on taking the women and gender studies class at university as part of my humanities requirement to to my political science major. One thing that has been on my mind a lot as I prepare to take this class is how does porn affect women's rights. Several of my friends and I agree that porn is ok and does not degrade or harm a woman's rights as long as she is not forced into it and she is not somehow tricked into doing it. Some of the reasons I came up with as to why porn is ok for a woman I'm going to list below, so please let me know what you think of the reasons and if you have any other ideas on why porn is or is not a set back to women's rights please let me know, I want to get as many ideas as possible. Thank you in advance to anyone who answers and/or responds to the poll!
Some reasons why porn is ok:
-Assuming that a women is not forced or tricked into performing in a porno, and that the girl in question is of legal age, it is ok.
-There are men as well as women who also take part in the porno, so if porn does happen to be bad, men are degraded to the same degree as women (in most mainstream porn anyway, not including certain kinds of fetish porn).
-It would actually be a set back to women's rights if a woman is told she is not allowed to do porn if she wishes to, putting further restrictions on what a woman can and can not do with her body.
-Eliminating pornography would amount to yet another form of censorship.
I don't think there is a damn thing wrong with porn as far as women being in it. They are paid just like everyone else. If they are not paid or are forced into it then its not even porn, it's fucked up and maybe illegal too.
I can see how some women see porn, and how women are dominated in some of it, and think that it's a bad message if people see that and think it's okay to treat women that way. And of course, little kids should not see it anyway, but otherwise we are all grown people and shouldn't put too much meaning into on-camera sex for masturbation, in my opinion.
There is nothing wrong with porn. But men and women watch it. There are so many different varieties out there because everyone has different fantasies, and the industry caters to all of it.
A lot of women are able to make great $$ from doing porn (way more than male porn stars), and if they choose to make a living that way, then more power to them. At least they are making a living, paying their bills, and taking care of their families.
Everyone has a choice... even the women can choose the kind of porn they want to do. They are setting the standards, choosing how/when to work, and putting food on the table. That's feminism at its finest, in my opinion!
I like your plan, but I have some trouble understanding what are you asking us. So, please correct me.
You would like to know if feminism has something in common with porn?
You are asking if human rights are decreased for porn actersses?
And if someone is forced into prorn industry, and what is hapening with their rights?
What am I missing?
As far as I know porn and feminism have nothing in common.
Every porn star make a choice to be what she is and because of her free will everything is ok with her human rights.
If someone is forced into a porn industry we can talk about crime, it is illegal she/he have no rights whatsoever.
I personally as a woman have no problem with porn. If I want to make my sexuality public and be paid to do so then I will do so as I see fit.
I think there are some forms of porn that are degrading but most is not.
I don't think anything is really degrading unless you personally feel degraded by it.
Edited to add: But I do find it interesting that the three industries where women easily out-earn men are porn, prositution and modelling - all based on looks and sex.
Thank you for breaking this down for me CyberRenegade.
As I said, I think that nothing is wrong and noeone is decreasing porn's human rights as long as they doing it willingly, but what is behinde their choices (and I don't want to sound heartless) I do not care. Maybe they made a bad one before in their life and this porn career is just a consequence, but we all have to be responsible for our own life and pay our own debts.
With great confidence one can clearly proclaim that the purveyors of pornography will face their day of Judgement- each spring for one evening at the AVN Awards Banquet in Las Vegas. Any wanton starlet of thy preference shall be on hand to receive the fruits of their hard labor from the year afore.
The scantily clad maidens of coitus and other depraved acts of fornication finally receive the recognition of their talents- for they do so out of free will and verily I say, in barter for fair bounty of sheckles.
Blessed be the Pornographers!
Porn is bringing to light what is done in darkness and how much of it has been brought to light????
As far as I know, (most) porn counts as a legal job made by consenting adults, for consenting adults. If your job is legal, allows you to pay your bills, and allows you to look yourself in the mirror in the morning, tell anyone who objects to your job to kindly go fuck a blender.
Like most of the other ladies on this site, I find little wrong with Porn.... We all agree that if it is by free will and financial reward is beneficial to many. Remember the San Fernando Valley has created an entire industry around Porn and 1000's have job because of it.
If I was young and beautiful I would have no problem being a Porn Actress, as long as I had some discretion on the subject matter.
Some has commented on letting a guy pee on you and calling you degrading names. For me that would be crossing the line and I would prefer to do some hooking before going there.
But that is just me.
No I don't think it is and women has the right to do what she wants to. Many a many of people watch Porn there's some thats not as good as others but it just boils down to what you are looking for. Women and some me do Porn for a number of reasons if it's by their choice and enjoy doing Porn there's not a thing wrong with it.
