Dentist asking if you are single? Unprofessional or just chit chat?

My (male) dentist recently retired. My new female dentist is about my age. (Meaning over 50)

I saw her briefly for the first appointment and then had some fairly extensive work scheduled.

When she about fifteen minutes into the procedure, with multiple dental instruments in my mouth, she asked if I was single.

(I am not, but as posted elsewhere it is a sexless marriage).

From conversation, with the hygienist, I believe my new dentist to be divorced.

Ladies,

If a male dentist asked if you were single, would think it alright?

Would an age difference matter?

Also, since I'm not getting any at home, and I have to go back in a couple of weeks, any advice?

Was this the only thing she said that made your ears perk up? Did she compliment you or flirt with you? Did she ask you other personal questions?

If the answer is that this was the only thing that caught your attention, I would say you're thirsty and reading interest into a neutral situation.

Just my opinion, tho.

Perhaps she wants to know why your spouse is not in her client database. Anyway, I hate any question a dentist asks during a procedure, even those related to the procedure itself. Answering questions while the questioner, or anyone else for that matter, has their hands inside your mouth is just not something I like.

Maybe you'd unintentionally offended her in some way and she was thinking, "I'd sure feel sorry for this asshole's wife if he's married," and the question just popped out!

Seriously though, like Noll says there could be any number of reasons for asking, most of them totally innocent. If there had been no hint of any attraction, flirtation, etc beforehand I wouldn't read anything into it.

Oops, not a gal and didn't really answer your question. Maybe (being wiser than me) some of the "gals" will have better answers for you.
Three comments,

1) I have been going to the same clinic for years, my chart as far "how do contact in an emergency" hasn't changed. It seems odd to ask that during a procedure not in the normal "new patient" questions.

2) There were some semi-flirt comments about how my smile would be improved.

3) During the first once over exam, I could see a nipple (just one) through her lab coat. Positioned in the dental chair I was just a foot away.

You're thirsty. Don't, I repeat, don't flirt with her.

Not a Gal, but I "know someone" in the field......Dentists build their client base by being personable and chit chatting, making a connection with patients. It helps the patient relax. Being nice to people is good marketing.
If you went to a male dentist, I bet they would talk to you about how you could improve your smile.
Dental offices are usually on the chilly side, like a grocery store. Don't be flattered if you see a woman with hard nipples. And don't stare at her tits.
If she is going to flirt with a patient, it probably will be a guy that does NOT need extensive dental work.
I know guys that think women are flirting with them, just because they speak to them. Ever have a waitress touch your arm momentarily? Is that you?

1) Flirt hard with her, ask her what her sign is then make something up about how it intersects positively with your own. Pour on the smoove.

2) You might be leaving a great fuck out there on the floor of some dentist office for some other Joe to come along and snag if you do not act asap.

3) Thank her for revealing herself to you with her public display of affection.

Report back to us your findings.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

So I guess, from these comments, that it would be ok for male patient to ask a female patient is she were single? Even thought marital status should already be in the chart.

Apparently she had her fingers in your mouth, and to look at the chart she would have to remove her gloves. No, never mind, she was absolutely hitting on you hard. Eat more candy and don't floss if you want to see her again.
