Can anyone confirm for me what the second person singular simple past tense would have been in the sixteenth century for the verb "to rend". "Rendedst"? "Rentst"?

Help!

The Cursed Cunt (RR) - "holyyyyy sheeeiiit.... Your writing is fucking fantastic" (CarltonStJames)

Snow White and the Seven Dildos (RR) - "Fuck. It's perfect.... honestly genius and so fucking well executed." (VioletVixen)

Metamorphoses (RR) - "so imaginative and entertaining" (saucymh)

And There Came Two Angels to Sodom - "What a deliciously worded story! So juicy, so raunchy" (el_henke)

Fuck-Talk (with VioletVixen) - "Jeez. I feel rendered wordless by how much clever fucking fun this is" (Jaymal)

That would have been 'rent' or 'rended', I would have thought.

Hmmm... "Thou rent" or "thou rended" sounds too straight-forward to me... Given that it would be "thou didst" or "thou wast"... Hence my question.

I believe "Thou rendest" is the correct form, "Thou dost rend" would work too.

That would be correct for the present tense. But for the simple past it would presumably need to be "thou rendedst" or "thou rentst"?

I'm not really sure about those, why not "Thou hast rended"?

edit: After a little research I believe "Thou rendedst" to be correct too.

Preterit simple.

Sing. I loved, thou lovedst, he loved;

Plur. We loved, ye loved, they loved.

Preterperfect compound. I have loved, &c.

Preterpluperfect. I had loved, &c.

Future. I shall love, &c. I will love, &c.

Thou "hath rent" or "doth rendeth/ rendest"
According to the medieval geeks I call my friends, "doth" is basically "does," but may also be past tense if the verb that follows is past tense.

"Doth" is indeed "does", that's not second person though, but third.

You do, he/she does

Thou dost, he/she doth

Preterit

Thou didst, he/she did

Thank you, all, for your efforts - especially to patokl, who was careful to read the fine print of my original post: "second person singular simple past tense". I asked the same question on the forum of Another Erotica Site Which Shall Remain Nameless, and the nerds there were, typically, more argumentative but more exacting. It seems to be a toss up (that's toss up, not toss off) between "thou rendedst" and "thou rentst" - and no one seems to be able to settle that one for me, so I'll just go with what scans best!

Edit: I had another look at it and it seems that in most cases the old form of second person singular simple past tense is pretty much the modern form with the suffix -st, so:
You loved > Thou lovedst
You did > Thou didst

The simple past of "to rend" today can be both "rent" and "rended", but the latter could very well be a modern conjugation, while the the former would be the original one. Therefore both "Thou rendedst" and "Thou rentst" could be correct, but "rentst" might be the actual one that was used in those days.

Success with your story.
