I had planned a trilogy of stories about the devil possessing a young bride. The first part was about the devil impregnating her the night before her wedding and the second part took place the morning of the wedding and was about her confessing the night before to her priest and then the devil showing up and compelling the priest to fuck the bride in the ass. I was going to wrap up this extravaganza in part 3 with the devil showing up during the actual ceremony and possessing everyone in the church and having the bride's side of the family fuck the groom's side of the family. I was going to have the devil fuck everyone's mom as well and all the male family members and attendants gangbanging the bride by the end... With the ban on I found it too hard to complete that trilogy the way I originally wanted to and abandoned it at 2 parts.

As a newbie myself, I would think it counterproductive to eliminate the mods and previous winners. Isn't the reason Lush is set apart because of that quality. There are thousands of members and only one winner. The chances of a beginning author winning is impossible anyway. Competitions are for the best of best.

If we went with a theme suggested by a particular author, who'd had perhaps several months or longer, to think up a plot for their story, wouldn't that introduce a semblance of a bias in their favour?

Hence I rule with an iron fist when it comes to competitions!

1 word max story and the cover photo would just be a picture of the author's tits. Then we all vote and comment on who has the best pair of tits.

I think a comp like that would get the most amount of views and votes in a long while.

It might be fun to cut to the essence of erotic writing with a contest dedicated soley to a single, hot, steaming sex scene.. Could former winners meet the challenge of an 'all sex' criteria or would some non-winners break through? The entries might be kept short, say 2000 words or maybe 'Flash Fiction' length. Writers might be allowed a limited number of words to get into and later exit the scene, but all in between would be just lusty Lush sex.

Just a thought.

It's a good point, but I'm not entirely convinced that it would. Plots are one thing, execution's another. And even if someone has spent months honing a story in advance, it's just as easy to overcook something as to undercook it. The time normally allowed from the announcement of a competition to the end date is quite sufficient to come up with something and work it into an appealing shape. At the risk of sounding arrogant, it took me about 10 minutes from seeing the idea "weddings" above to knowing what I'd want to write. Whether I'd place or not in such a competition is an entirely different matter.

Right, best keep a look out for that iron fist.

When reading the comments earlier in this thread about the judging of competitions and whether there should be a competition for new authors, something occurred to me.

There is a rule in place that says, “stories need to have a minimum of ten votes to qualify for the competition”. But doesn’t this rule fundamentally skew the chances of winning towards more long-term/established members of the site?

The reason I ask is that surely it is incredibly straightforward for a long-term member with a healthy friend list to gather enough votes for their entry to be considered by the judges, regardless of its quality, simply because they have numbers on their side.

On the other hand, a newer member with few friends and few followers could theoretically submit the greatest piece of erotic fiction ever created but it would be discarded at the first stage of the competition, not because it is poor, but simply because the author doesn’t have a swollen friend list they can call upon to gift them the required ten qualifying votes.

Therefore I think that a competition for new authors, or at least the dropping of the seemingly arbitrary “10 votes to qualify” rule, would be a pretty good idea as it would encourage newer writers to take part and engage with the competition process.

As you note, Varrick, the quality of the work should speak for itself.


You can see when someone gives a score to your story in the ‘Timeline’ section of your profile. It doesn’t say what score they have given, but I assume that if they have given a score they have also voted for it.

But anyway, as a new author and relatively new member of the site (I signed up long ago, but life happened and I stopped visiting after about two weeks!), it was pretty dispiriting to realise that there is a good chance my competition entry will not be judged on its merits, but potentially be deemed ineligible because I do not have a large list of friends/followers to guarantee me the qualifying votes.

Of course, there is still the best part of three weeks before the competition closes, so hopefully my entry will gather enough votes in the meantime. Still, it would be ideal if each entry were judged solely on its quality.

I’m sure that the “10 votes to qualify” rule exists to give the users of the site a voice in the judging process. However, it still seems pretty clear that needing “10 votes to qualify” skews the chances of winning in favour of established members, as they will have no problem meeting this seemingly arbitrary criterion.

Again, this is why I believe that scrapping the “10 votes to qualify” rule and/or having a competition for new authors are pretty good ideas.

I have an idea for a Lush voted story winner. After all the entries are in, you take the top ( enter number 10-15-20 stories) and make the writer anonymous. Then those that choose to read the top stories vote on which one is the best without knowing the author. I know there are several members here who love certain authors and would vote for them and could most likely tell by the writing who they are but I feel like if you just have a story, you others could vote on how its written with out the love of a special author being in play.
