A little note about multi-part stories.

What bothers me (I recall it happening last night) is reading the first few (maybe only) parts of a story, & at the end, it says, "Please continue reading '____ (Story Title) Part 3". I'd be happy to, if the story this was at the end of wasn't Part 4! That means I've likely already read "Part 3", so what is "continuing" about that?!

That is because at the time that part 4 was posted part 5 wasn't posted yet. When you submit a story it only gives you the option to link to a story that is already posted. The author would have to edit and resubmit each part of their story once the whole thing has been posted to correct the "continue reading" link at the end.

It wouldn't be a bad idea if changing the linked story and only the linked story at the end just went through without mod approval. It wouldn't change any of the content and would streamline the issue and create a more pleasurable reading experience.

That would explain it if the posted part I had just read gave any sort of hint their would be later action with one character & any new/other characters. However, when the story I just finished reading gives a very-definite ending (meaning "Part 5" will never exist, let alone be posted), that explanation doesn't work.

Also, is exasperatingly tiring clicking links at end of a story to other stories not in that series (perhaps even by completely-different authors, &/or that send you to nothing ultimately due to "exclusion list" or such things) without being able to simply "open in new tab" so if you don't like it & want to try next suggested link/story, have to go back to get forward again like rat in a maze.

.........well then that's the end.

And use your right click button. Use your problem solving skills.

I know it's the end of each series, which is why I mentioned/asked it here... No need for "continue reading..." link(s).

Also, just clicked on story on main page. Right-clicking any other story at its end does a grand total of nothing.

I meant right clicking and selecting "open in new window" for the link at the end. Or any link really if that's what you want. Or if not, ignore it.

I knew what you meant, but when I right-clicked the link, & it didn't give me the option for a new window, tab, or anything.

I've rarely seen you try to be nice, & won't expect you to ever read your "reading stupid shit" quota, since you appear to have no quota for posting it.

Actually I just tried it and you're right. It doesn't pop up a menu.

Anyway, it's not that big a deal. Hit the back button.

Do you even lift?

Are you that self-obsessed that you have to ask personal questions or make personal comments every time you post? And make suggestions to answer their questions without knowing if they work?

How about you lift... Yourself out of here permanently, so I can read stories instead of a million PMs from people asking me to be their rep in getting you quieted or tossed?

HOW DO YOU LIFT BRO? TO FAILURE? FUCKING ENDURANCE REPS?

Or do you just lift your beef curtains out of the way to sit and pee?

I'm not your bro, nor are the majority of your posts on-topic. Therefore, I have decided I will lift... Myself above your level & from here henceforth, only post on-topic until someone on staff does their job & bans you either temporarily or forever.

Are you saying you are no longer going to post until I am gone? Sounds like you're attempting some heavy lifting bro. Want me to spot you?

I think multi-part stories are something the author whose post I am quoting no longer cares about... Along with any other type or story or person that does not involve/respond to him. Therefore, I invite staffers to prove they care about all stories & members on this site by removing this member if not his innumerable off-topic personal attacks & other non-pertinent posts.

You already failed at what you said you were going to lift, bro. Good thing I'm spotting you puny man. In a few short months I will PUMP YOU UP!

So, what do others think about multi-part stories? I'll just change this to a blog if I'm the only one posting on the topic.

It's not that big a deal, except you hit "Back" & forget which stories/options you haven't read.

How about you try not suggesting solutions you don't know to work?

I was mainly answering you question about the links at the end of stories not linking to the next chapter. I let you know why that is.

And how about your question has no answer because it doesn't even make sense. How about your posts are plagued by the most beguiling unorthodox syntax I have ever seen.

Sorry about me not recognizing it as being you answer to me question, matey, even though we both know that's not what you meant it as.

Also, how about someone else get this thread back on-topic & get the loser who keeps taking threads off-topic permanently off the backs of the lengthy list of members he repeatedly reacts to like this?

Well to be honest... This thread is about word count on multipart stories. Your original post is completely off topic. I was just trying to answer your question about the links at the end of chapters. If you want to be mad about being off topic, be mad at yourself.

seriously, i'd like readers to chime in on this - and either back me up, or tell me i'm wrong - in my experience, the norm for multi chapter stories is that, unless they really grab someone with the first part, the readership falls off pretty dramatically with each chapter.

That's so true. Too many chapters get confusing. If the first one blows I mostly don't read on to the next one so it needs to get my attention and if its too short it may be hard to do that. I like them long and meaty.

Thread title is regarding multipart stories, which is what my post is also regarding/about. Your posts are about me, what I lift, & (initially) a suggestion you gave to answer my question/fix my problem you later admit doesn't work & you gave without trying it.

Also, I may read a 2nd part without reading the whole first, in the hopes the author's quality improved as they continued.

Question was still under thread title, & your answer to the question is faulty by your own admission.

What is the "okay" word count?

Mine was 1645 words?

I think half my problem is that i simply do not have enough time..

Mine do seem to make people laugh though, and my audios seem to do well enough.

Kiera, there are always guidelines that we like to see adhered to. Does that mean if the word count does not meet said guideline we reject it? By all means, no. If the story is good enough to stand alone, be it part of a multi-part series (what this thread is about) or a single story, then we can waive the guideline and publish the story. When it gets too far outside the guidelines, that's when we suggest the author make corrections.

Ahh - time, the elusive arbiter of our being able to enjoy life and do as we please. If we all had the time, then ....... well, then we would.
