At some point most of us 'erotic romance' writers have pried our fingers away from the keyboard, lifted a glass of wine to our lips, shooed the cat off our mouse (for the thousandth time), kicked back in our less than ideal computer chair and asked ourselves. “Who actually reads this stuff? Who exactly is my target audience?”

Now, I’m not suggesting anyone should write specifically for a target audience, any more than one should consider selling their soul. Authors are artists first, booksellers second, or last, or never, depending on the latest trends. I know I started writing for my own enjoyment. The fact that anyone bothers to read the stories that tumble out of my head is icing on the proverbial cake.

But who does actually read this stuff? My experience has been that readership of gay erotica, gay erotic romance and M/M fiction is split pretty much 50/50 between gay/bi men and hetero women.

Why do you think that is? Why do hetero women make up such a large percentage of the 'gay erotic' readership base?

I read gay erotica because it is almost always interesting in that it gives me information about the male's body. We women can use this insight to please the male. The same with porn of this type. It is interesting. Technically (he) with another, can show me how to pleasure himself better than a woman can and in my mind this is a gift. Thanks people.

Also in my opinion, gays (male or female) tend to be more honest in their sexual expression for whatever reasons. : )
Torture the data long enough and they will confess to anything.

i do read gay stories it is really make me crazy and remind me that i have lost more than 25 years of using my cock and i get tired , i think it is the time to use my ass and enjoy it filled i think it deserves to be used well. i already tried fingering myself and it made me happy . i hope frankly find the right partner to make it up to me the passed years . the feeling of a strong man riding on my back firmly hugging every inch of me would satisfy me even if my wife refused. can i find that partner??

As I have stated before on here, I love gay erotica. I absolutely adore the male body! I agree with Myself above ...

We women can use this insight to please the male.

I hate to hear a guy say "yeah, my gf/wife can't give head like a man can" .... so I have always watched gay porn to help figure out those times that make that man go "Aaaah, fuck!!!!"

Love your writing LeighGarrett! Love it. You are an amazing writer!

I love M/M romances. At first, I must admit, that I wanted to see how the opposite sex really falls in love with the same sex because it was such a mystery to me. And I think its because gay male erotica seems to be another perspective from which love can be described that has me hooked. My first M/M romance I ever read was by this one author that captured me as not only a reader but as a fan of his work from that point on. The way he writes draws me into the story so much so that I want to become apart of the story. I know that sounds weird but what can I say, the man writes that darn good. smile
But back the subject at hand. I think most everyone wants to read that one story where true love prevails, and there's a happy ending. And its my personal preference that I wanna see that work out for two male characters that want each other.

I agree with what the other ladies have stated! I love reading gay male erotica for all the given reasons! Just a fascination about the male body & mind!

I found that we have some great female & male writers on the subject! One of my favourite writers in this genre part from you Leigh, is Harbour! I really recommend her work too in fact she was the first I read!
