VC Andrews is one of my favorite authors. She wrote Flowers in the Attic, for those of you who do not know her. Anyway, I own every single book she has ever wrote. I recently bought her latest release and I cannot get into it!! How do you deal with a book written by a favorite author that you just cannot get into?
♥ Listen, touch, and look around in the air and on the ground. If you watch all nature's things, you might just see a fairy's wings. ♥
I never could get into any of Stephen King's Dark Tower stuff. I just put off ever reading those, thinking someday I might mature to a point where I'll find them enjoyable.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.
Did someone else co-write it with her, Pixie? Sometimes that happens and it has a very different style.
John Grisham is one of my favorite authors. But I couldn't make it through A Painted House.

I just leave it for the time being. Sometimes I'm not in the right frame of mind for that author, or that particular book. The book will wait for you.
Wise words Gypsy. I am having the same trouble with Hard-boiled Wonderland, one of Murakami's.

He often uses a very disjointed parallel writing technique where the novel reads like 2 separate storylines (Chapters 1,3,5,7 will follow certain characters, 2,4,6,8 others for example), until they meet part way through the book. It's not one of those books you can pick up and put down easily. I intend to read it in one or two sittings in the Xmas holidays. I feel it requires total concentration!

So, it might be that you need to allow more time per reading block for the book. On the other hand, it might be ghost written and rubbish

I put off reading the Dark Tower series for quite a few years, I've been reading SK's works since I was a teenager. Just finished the last book a couple of months ago and I thoroughly enjoyed finally reading that series.

Pixie, I've read all the series' by her up until the last one in the Landry series. I liked her style and content, back in my late teens and early twenties. Plus, my mom had all of her first couple of series' on her expansive bookshelf, so that made it easy to get into her works lol. After reading the first few in the Landry series I just kind of quit reading her books and fell away from her stuff.

So, it doesn't really bother me that I couldn't get into any more of her works, I just moved on from that particular type of story content for a while, I guess. It's a ghost writer penning the stories after her death in the late 80's.

And like Gypsy states, just come back to it a bit later, maybe you'll be in the mood for it at a different time.

Really enjoyed Diana Gabaldon's first three books in the 'Outlander' series. My interest began to wane with each new release. Far too much outer detail, not enough story. I heard she started hiring a lot of researchers. Probably not a good idea as it appears the research began to overwhelm her writing.

The latest book of the series came out in 2009 'An Echo In the Bone'. 1200 pages of teeny tiny print that waffled endlessly. I couldn't get through the first fifty pages. Now, I've read Tolstoy's 'Anna Karenina', so believe me, I can get through anything if it's written well. But 'Echo In the Bone'. Aside from the detailed descriptions of absolutely everything, except what was happening amongst the characters, my major complaint... what the hell happened to the word 'said'. Honestly, three word dialogue tags after every sentence is just plain annoying.

Sorry Diana. I feel bad, but I just couldn't do it.

If it was my absolute favorite author...
Well...I imagine I'd be quite upset. But so far he's never disappointed me.

I used to read romance novels written by female authors. I still do, sometimes.
But it took a long time for me to grow comfortable with them. It's something a
guy would do in the basement, in the dark, underneath a blanket, at 4AM with
a flashlight and heart-attack waiting to happen if someone stumbled upon his
"weirdness."

As with some drinks, dishes, etc., they're an acquired taste. Let it alone for
a while, and try it again. smile

I love John Grisham's work but have not started A Painted House yet. I hope I will not be disappointed once I do.
I recently started reading Pet Sematary and can't get through it this time, which is a pity because I love it and Stephen King's works so much. I also can't get through Bram Stoker's Dracula - I never have - because of the weird dreams it gives me.
If your enjoying a book that much, you never not finish it!

Her new stuff is a little ridiculous now. My favourite series would be the Casteel Series.

If I can't get into the book at that moment, I'll set aside and revisit it later... this can take months or a couple years and when I finally do, it usually ends up being one of my favourite books or a very memorable book.
There was a time when I couldn't get enough of Anne Rice. Loved the Vampire Chronicles in the beginning, and loved the Mayfair Witches, but I find I just can't read her work anymore.

I never put a book down if it doesn't interest me, I just try to get through it faster so I can move on to something else.
