Shakespeare`s Macbeth. Part of our Yr 11 curriculum. Could n`t get my head around it, even the video went straight over my head.

Did you enjoy the movie, "Arachnophobia"?
Bit overrated, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I started reading,"I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", the biography of Warren Zevon, and almost didn't finish it. Why? Because it was clear he was an asshole! Here's a guy that womanized, got married and had a daughter anyway, became an alcoholic who would beat his wife, had numerous affairs, and ignored his daughter. She even made a special trip to see him once and he still ignored her. So many people tried to help him (including Jackson Browne), but he never thanked them. If it wasn't a library book, I would've thrown it in the trash.

I read that book and almost wished I hadn't. I am a big Warren Zevon fan, and however much one tries to keep an artist's personal life separate from his art, it always seems to sneak in. Now, I almost try to remain ignorant of the personal lives of writers and composers whose work I admire. Learning that Zevon was such a selfish prick didn't ruin his music for me - - I still like it a lot - - but now I see it through less of a fond lens.

One fun fact from the book - - Zevon said Eleanor Mondale gives the best blowjobs he ever experienced. I am sure Walter was really happy that tidbit is now in the public domain.

Melville, Moby Dick: (see, GE/BH) There's a reason it was a huge flop when first released. Should be approached only by Eng. Lit majors and then with caution..

Ah, Moby Dick is one of my favorites. I think it is a great novel, and there is much more humor in it than what I expected. The only parts I got bored with and skimmed over were the technical parts about the ship.
The DaVinci Code. One of the most boring pieces of crap ever published. I weep at the number of trees that must have perished to make it.
Twilight, it was crap. I wanted to read it before I judged it, but I couldn't finish the first book.
"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it you can either run from it...or, learn from it." - Rafiki, The Lion King

I'll agree on that. Except I actually finished the book. Felt I had to as it was a gift.
Another I agree with is Lord of the Rings. Enjoyed the movies, enjoy the idea, just hard to read.
I got about halfway through the Obernewtyn series by Isobel Carmody and got distracted. I plan to finish it though. Someday.
The Crooked Letter by Sean Williams was just too strange to get through.
There's been a few I couldn't get through but I forget most of them.

"Ulysses" by James Joyce. I trudged my way through it, but the writing style seemed designed to block the thing from my long-term memory.

ha! you stole my thunder! that said, the last few pages, Molly Blooms speech, was an amazing peice of writing, but it took me a year of struggling with the damn book to reach that part. smile

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

J.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Shelley's Frankenstein and Stoker's Dracula.

All three of their writing styles put me to sleep before I could finish more than 40 pages.

I would have to agree on the Lord of the Rings. I've tried several times and I just cannot finish the books. I have read the first 6 of the Harry Potter's and they were all far superior to the movies, but book 7.....I just cannot get past chapter 8. She was in far to much of a rush whether be personal or publisher pushed to finish the series and I think it shows in the last book.

I started reading Ulysees with Mahlersymphony and I'm also struggling. I like the inner thoughts of Mr Leopold Bloom he makes me laugh. I'm still at chapter two and I still am unsure what this book will be about???? I did a bit of research on this book and apprently James Joyce put lot's of criptic clues in the book. I also dislike the stop start of the short sentances that drives me mad as you can't get into the story as much.
Anything by Ernest Hemingway...reason: sheer boredom.
