1. Sean Connery (and love those old classic Bond movies, they had great style)
2. Daniel Craig (attitude)
3. Pierce Brosnan (playing Bond sure did change his pretty boy image and besides, Brosnan is a Brit who loves American country music)
4. Roger Moore (he'd have been better but he could be a little too prissy at times. He had some great scripts, the above 3 could've done them much better)

Cate vs. Kate. This could be an interesting throwdown. Cate is a more highly regarded actress, Kate has more action movie experience (though Cate's upcoming role as the villain in the new Thor could shift that) so I think it depends on whether you're going for a more dramatic, Craig-esque Bond or a more action-focussed Bond a la Moore and Brosnan. Hm. Perhaps Cate Blanchett as the villain and Kate Beckinsale as 007? Is the Bond fandom ready for a Bond movie where both key roles are women and the main male role will be the "Bond boy" (or will we just keep the Bond girl and make the female 007 bi/lesbian)?
Someone once touted Gillian Anderson for a female Bond but, though she did star in the UK series "The Fall", Anderson is an American and therefore probably wouldn't be a top contender for 007. I think she could do a part like that, though.
Connery is the classic Bond.
Brosnan certainly had a flair and he was a cunning linguist!
Dalton had a darker side
Craig plays a very edgy Bond
Roger Moore probably fits the books' description best, but I think the writing was too campy
