Right, when I was juggling a fairly demanding job and being the parent of a two-year-old.

so... he's 21 now, right? and the world is shut down and you're at home a lot...? smile

wha-wha-what? you're dead to me. dead, i say.

I can't explain that any more than why I haven't read the books. I write high fantasy, played D&D for years, still play RPGs, and have never even ventured into what's essentially the origin of the whole kit-n-kaboodle. I've almost picked it up in the book store several times, almost clicked on it when I've seen it available for streaming... I've just never pulled the trigger.

I'm still working my regular job, just from my home office. I manage IT for a home oxygen company and, needless to say, we are not shut down. We are even caring for Covid patients in some of our locations. So nothing has really changed much. 8-4 or 5, M-F.

And he's back home right now since his job is also on work from home. But at least he can help with the cooking now (Moving away taught him at least one useful skill. And his chicken quesadillas are to die for.)

Right now, I've been mostly watching documentary type stuff. Don't have my Netflix active at them moment.
The Linebacker
From that list, I haven't seen:

The Lion King

The Jesus Film (I've never even heard of it)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Not sure, I saw a Harry Potter movie once... eh)

Shrek

Seven Samarai

The Avengers

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Not sure on this one as I saw one Lord of the Rings movies and that was enough for me)

City of God (not familiar with it at all)
The Godfather Movies, Star Wars Trilogy & Prequel, The Sound of Music, Casablanca, The Passion of the Christ, The DaVinci Code, Schindler's List, Wuthering Heights, Gone With The Wind, pretty much any other major classic film you can think of that came in book form. I can read for hours and hours but I can hardly sit still for 20 minutes with a movie on. I read most of the modern classics before I was out of Junior High. I made the mistake of watching Where the Red Fern Grows after I had already read the book several times and that was the last time I watched a movie after I'd already read the book.

This is one of my favourite films ever.

It's very raw.

The scene with a banana on the bed had me in fits of laughter.

It's deeply sad in the main but highly recommended.

That's the only one I watched in its entirety. Little M was into the books and watched the movies as they came out but I never got past the first story in either.

And it's "The Philosopher's Stone", please. "Sorceror's Stone" is meaningless, "Philosopher's Stone" is a key concept in stories about alchemists. I really hate how the publisher basically dumbed it down for Americans. Surely the US audience for a story like that is capable of learning a little medieval lore. Mercifully, the Canadian publisher kept the British original intact so that we also got the British title for the movie.

Because "I thought Volume 1 was a lousy trailer".

Dirty Dancing
When the movie came out kids in school (I was about 13 or 14) started claiming the music I used to listen to was "from that movie". It felt like cultural appropriation I guess.

This explains quite a bit.

It's the whole thing noll.

Little noll listening to his tunes, the kids teasing him saying the songs are from some movie little noll has never heard of, instead of the teasing being the memory it's the perceived cultural appropriation over "Hungry Eyes" by Eric Carman - a classic - that these other children are lowering by saying it's from some silly movie about a bored rich girl on vacation.

Doesn't take a psychiatrist to see this, in essence, is your personality.

LOL, I initially read Eric Cartman ;)

I wasn't referring to music that was written for the movie, but to much older songs that were on that soundtrack too. There was no way of not knowing about that movie at that time btw. even if I'd tried. And there was no bullying involved. No kids were harmed during the making of those memories.

You know... I'm not convinced that Eric Carman and Hungry Eyes weren't the inspiration for Cartman. I mean think about it, hungry eyes... Cartman is a perpetually hungry fatass (Kyle's definition) and Carman/Cartman is pretty obvious. Plus I want to say they have made fun of Dirty Dancing several times on the show. Can't just be a coincidence.

If they dumbed it down, no wonder it was such a dud. It wasn't very entertaining and not intriguing at all.

Actually, it was really only the title that they dumbed down. The story is the same. I found Philosopher's Stone a nice, concise story in book form, but Rowling's writing definitely wasn't that great yet. I understand it improves later, as do the movies. Still, HP isn't that high on my list of fantasy to see. I'm much more interested in seeing, for instance, some of the Neil Gaiman adaptations (American Gods, Good Omens) that have come out, but those are TV, not movies.

Lurker
When I saw this category I immediately though Citizen Kane or Cassablanca or Gone With the Wind.

Then I see the posts and its skewing more heavily towards more modern blockbusters.

I still haven't finished the Harry Potter films. I've tried several times. Each time I try, I start at the beginning so I've seen a few of them numerous times.

I never saw any of them in theatres. I never read the books either.

I'm more of a "Lord of The Rings" Guy.
