The beach scene from Atonement is probably the most cinematically impressive scene I have ever scene.



It depicts the emotion of Dunkirk far better than any scene I recall from "Dunkirk" this previous summer. The entire scene is one continuous camera shot which is why it is so impressive.

I just finished another marathon watching of Band of Brothers. So many scenes to mention, however...

In the 9th episode, Why We Fight, specifically when Easy Company first sees the concentration camp.
They don't know what it is. They had no idea it existed, or the Final Solution to the Jewish Question
was a thing. But the prisoners are so weak, they can't even show emotion, until one man kisses one
soldier on both cheeks and hugs him. Tears. Nothing but tears after that. Every time I watch it.

The embrace (and tears) begin at 2:20 of this short video. But if you have not before, I encourage
you to watch the whole thing.

The shower scene from Psycho:

This might be the most recognizable movie scene of all time. The movie being shot in black-and-white had one major advantage, and that’s that Alfred Hitchcock was able to use chocolate syrup as the “blood” in the scene since viewers wouldn’t be able to differentiate between red and brown. That likely made filming the scene a bit more pleasant, even if it still shocked audiences for decades after its release.

The movie Secretary when Lee Holloway (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) is bent over her boss' desk and is told to lift her skirt up then take her pantyhose and panties down. The “O Captain! My Captain” scene from Dead Poets Society
This is one of the late Robin Williams’ most memorable films, and it’s led scores of people to know at least the title of the Walt Whitman’s poem by heart. The students’ appreciation for their teacher is clear, and the scene shows just how much he’s affected them. I have two favorites which I can't choose only one.

Ghost in the Shell. (1995) anime...When Motoko awakens to find her essence of consciousness now exist inside another human body.

Maleficent - starring Angelina Jolie as a fairy witch. (2014)...


Quick story-line...Sorry for abit of spoiler alert und it's so long, but I adore this film.

When Maleficent was a younger girl she meets and falls in love with a human peasant boy named Stefan,
his love for Maleficent becomes overshadowed by his ambition to become the new king.
Stefan visits Maleficent in the Moors, drugs her, but he can't bring himself to kill her.
Instead, he cuts off her wings with iron und presents them to the dying king as tribute.

Later Maleficent finds out that Stefan, who ist now the king, ist having a christening ceremony for his newborn daughter Aurora.
Maleficent casts a spell on Aurora that will cause her to fall into an external sleep on her 16th birthday for which only a kiss of true love
can awaken her.
The king sends his daughter Aurora into hiding, but Maleficent knows where she ist und watches her grow up und sometimes helps her
und begins to feel love for her as a mother would for her daughter.
Maleficent tries to stop the curse she put upon Aurora but she can't without her wings.

My favorite scene...
Maleficent visits the 16 year old Aurora in her external sleep.
Maleficent ist crying as she kisses Aurora's cheek saying how sorry she feels und how she misses her.
Unexpectedly Aurora awakens from her sleep because Maleficent's kiss ist a kiss of true love.

The names are different but this ist the original folklore fairy tale told und written of "Sleeping Beauty" that has been changed
into a different children's story.
Sleeping Beauty wasn't awakened by a handsome prince, but by her fairy godmother who loved her dearly
und who's life was changed for the better once again by Aurora's love.

Off the top of my head:

Alex Murphy being brutally murdered in the first Robocop film.

The hallway lasers scene in the first Resident Evil film.

Liu Kang destroying Shang Tsung with combos and then finally blasting him into a pit of spikes in the original Mortal Kombat film. That epic music in the background helped tremendously.

The parking scene in Snatch is a classic -

"It's too tight."

"Too tight? You could land a jumbo fucking jet in there!"

Some poor dude running to a tank with dynamite, taking way too long ad getting blown into a sea of red in Saving Private Ryan.

Having just watched Blade Runner again for the first time in a very, very long time, the open shots of future LA (which, funnily enough, is supposed to be 2019). And, really, any of the many shots of the city. It is just such a spectacularly realized future city. One of the best in cinematic s-f even today.
