Who's in your top 5?
In no ranking order, here are mine:
1. The Ramones
2. Rancid
3. The Clash (I know, not true punk, but they are still on my list because I think they are punk as fuck.)
4. The Misfits
5. Bouncing Souls
1. Stooges
2. Minor Threat
3. Dead Kennedies
4. Modern Lovers
5. Talking Heads (not really punk, but grew out of the CBGBs scene)
Also, I'll add that in my opinion, Neil Young's guitar solo on Cinnamon Girl is one of the most punk rock things ever recorded.
Don't believe everything that you read.

Homeboy, are you sure you listen to the Dead KennedY'S***

Some of the noise you men have posted under punk are not punk.
Minor thread falls under hardcore which is under the Punk umbrella.
For me
THE EXPLOITED
DEAD KENNEDY'S
THE GERMS
CRASS
DISCHARGE
You bring up a solid point... but the hardcore punk era in the 80s is vastly different from the general genre of phnk. I agree with your list though, especially with the Dead Kenney's*** ... lol.
However, my list isnt most influential, rather than what I love most. So many great bands out there, I love hearing what other people listen to. Agnostic Front, Black Flag, Bad Brains, etc... are all super influential, but I'd rather listen to ... "And out come the wolves" any day over them.
Not sure if most of mine count, but here we go:
Titus Andronicus
The Clash
Elvis Costello
Pixies
Stooges
Clash, Costello and Stooges all appear in No Thanks! The 70s Punk Rebellion anthology, so I'm counting them. Pixies I'm on the fence on.

1. Ramones. hey, i wanna be sedated
2. The Dictators. Seriously, one of the first punk albums, and who doesn't love Handsome Dick Manitoba
3. Iggy Pop with and without the Stooges
4. B-52s, definitely way outside their mainstream when they appeared.
5. Public Image Limited Johnny Rotten with a much better band.
6. The Monks. Really, the first punk band ever. Look them up and date them.
