I think one of the main problems with this is the fact that people keep procreating. Seriously. Like I cannot imagine how anyone would want to get pregnant and have a baby during a zombie apocalypse when you need to be mobile and adaptable but Judith forced them to hole up at the prison and fight for it. And now Maggie's pregnancy seems to be solidifying things. Watching them 'on the road' didn't seem like a fun experience considering food is legit scarce now if you're just scavenging. A secure space with walls and sustainable resources and safety is now a 'need' rather than a 'want'. This seems to be the motivating factor in fighting for what they have in Alexandria and not running.
While I agree, some previous storylines have felt redundant at times, and at other times kind of sloppy, this is ultimately a survivalist show - there's nothing to evolve to from here and there's only so many fresh ways to kill a zombie/herd. I think there is interesting potential for the first time as we come across other sustainable communities and the show looks at the idea of trade/barter and probably how to work together against a common evil. While I haven't read the comics, I imagine their only hope going forward to defeat Negan will be working with the other communities he's enslaved. They certainly don't have the manpower on their own. A lot of characters will evolve because of the recent deaths as well, which I think could be pretty compelling.
not sure who this Negan guy is, but if they really want him taken out, they should hire me.
