I just stumbled upon this post. It was such sad news. A beautiful, complex person in all respects. Still listen to his music regularly. Their live performance of Such A Shame at the Montruex Jazz Festival in '86 is haunting, intense and executed with so much feeling. The whole concert is on YouTube:
