Either the first time you heard it or the first time you actually paid attention to the lyrics, what songs totally surprised you? And why did it?
One that definitely surprised me when I heard it was Fack by Eminem haha
"Hit 'Em Up" by 2Pac made my jaw dropped when I first heard it. I knew the diss song could cause many problems!
There have been quite a few, but most recently, I'd say Trip the Darkness by Lacuna Coil. The lyrics themselves aren't really anything special, but the way it was sang and played, was pretty amazing. The chorus "follow me, follow me, as I trip the darkness" made the hairs on the back of my neck stick up and my jaw did literally drop because of the energy of it and the rather high pitch of Cristina Scabbia.
"Intervention" by Arcade Fire. The music is stunning, the lyrics powerful.
"Wake up" by the same band, ditto.

I heard it the first time while driving, and after a few moments I told everyone else in the car to shut up and I started it over again. I cried.

Same Love by Macklemore, it's just such powerful lyrics it makes everyone hush up and listen to what he's saying when it comes on.
Not so much jaw dropping, as jaw drooping. Just a sad, emotional song.

When I first heard it I thought the song was Es are good. Yeah I know it is a play on words.
Also Rum and Coca-Cola by the Andrew Sisters. That was jaw dropping to know what the lyrics really ment.

I remember being a little kid and hearing Voodoo Child for the first time. I was blown away by the sound of the guitar.
Lyrically, Ian Dury wrote some real jaw-dropping, poignant, funny, thought provoking lyrics with the Blockheads.
I couldn't pick just one of his songs.
Elvis Costello also springs to mind:

Many of the songs today really. Their "blue" content is unacceptable to me when there are millions of kids that listen to it and watch the videos.
I believe Timothy by The Bouys probably caught me by surprise more than any other as it sneaks cannibalism into the last verse. I first heard it somewhere in the early seventies I think.
