On Cinemax, I am watching a series called Rellik (killer spelled backward). It is a British police procedural murder mystery. It is a little different. It goes back in time several times during each episode. Literally rewinding whole portions you've just watched. Interesting storytelling gimmick. It's not great but I want to know what happens and that is sometimes all it takes to keep me watching.


Keep watching Gill, I think that the ending will surprise you.

One of the best documentary series on BBC was Coast which was first broadcast in 2005. The final tenth series was in 2015, but all 75 programmes are available on DVD. Luscious photography and many interesting and unknown stories about the natural and social history of the British coastline, all 11,073 miles of it (Ordnance Survey figures).

I enjoyed The Tunnel which in some ways was better than The Bridge although the ending was a bit sad

I guess I'm sorry to tell you that Lucifer was cancelled today after 3 seasons. If you're just starting season two though I guess you're probably a year away from finishing up that show.

Faux has cancelled Brooklyn 99. So fuck those fuckers. Again.

And it seems Hulu, Netflix, and TBS may be passing on it. So fuck them too, the dumb cunts.

It was easily the best comedy on TV.

Yeah they cancelled Brooklyn 99, The Mick and Lucifer.

It might have something to do with the pending Disney deal.

I actually think that Brooklyn 99 will get picked up by one of the streaming networks... if not, I hope Andy Samberg gets a new show somewhere.

It's rare when you and I find something to agree on, but Siren is one we do agree upon. I'm still holding out hope, thought it has been sitting unwatched on my DVR and I have on real desire to watch what's left.

I'm rather sad that two shows I truly enjoy are being canceled: Lucifer and Designated Survivor.

I'm still a Grey's Anatomy fan, though I'm starting to wain. I mean... how much more can they do with that show? They tend to kill off favorite characters, but there are only a few original cast members left. I think it's time to close the book on that show and move on.

I still have a love for some reality shows. Project Runway, Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, Bring It! are just a few of my top favs. My husband has gotten me into Forged in Fire and I must admit... it's actually rather interesting.

While it's got great ratings, I will not be watching Roseanne anytime soon. Everything I hear is like a check-list for every demographic and really... it seem they are trying to please everyone.

I am hoping that Leah Remeni's show about Scientology and the aftermath will return. I found that interesting and rather terrifying.

NBC loves Samberg from his run on SNL. Loren Michaels still has his fingers in a lot of pies throughout the industry.

I actually would have preferred he go to a non-network. This is quite rare, that one major network gives up the rights to a competing network... I think this is showing how FOX is dumping IPs before their entertainment division is swallowed up by Disney.

The rats are fleeing the sinking ship.

The next couple years will be very interesting.

I recently binged Cobra Kai.



For those that don't know, this a revisiting of the characters from 1984's "Karate Kid" which was somewhat of an 80s pop culture phenomenon.

Currently this show is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and 9.2 on IMDB. I thought it was good but those scores seem kind of suspect to me.

It's currently distributed by Youtube's fledgling streaming network "Youtube Red."

When you sign up for Youtube red you get one month free and you can just sign up, watch Cobra Kai and then cancel without paying anything. Youtube Red currently has some other shows on the docket but they have yet to be released so I can't comment on the overall quality of the programming at this time.

I give Cobra Kai a 7/10. It took me a few episodes before it pulled me in. The fighting is terrible as expected, but that's not really the focus of the show. The show is about the characters... and it's rare for a show to portray two opposing characters both in a way that evokes sympathy from the audience.

There's lots of corny nostalgia for all us 80s kids too.

Just finished binging Ozark. I thought it was pretty good, smart writing and interesting characters.


Also rewatching Hannibal (all three seasons are now on Amazon Prime). I hated to see them cancel the show. They did a good job bringing Thomas Harris' characters and stories to life. I personally think Mads Mikkelsen was a much better Hannibal than Anthony Hopkins. The series was pretty graphic for network television.

I loved the first two Harris books (I read Silence of the Lambs twice), but I got so pissed off after reading the end of the third one. **SPOILER ALERT** No way would Clarice have married Hannibal. It goes against everything either character is about, and made me feel cheated. Does the show has that premise? If not, I might give it a shot.

I will try Ozark.

I've been enjoying The Terror but it has one huge flaw. It visually fails in a big way at capturing the extreme cold temperatures the crew would be enduring.

I actually thought the same thing....

The crew were walking around in the Arctic winter as if it was nothing. I assume that this was done because it would be hard to tell a story on film if all the characters are bundled up.

They filmed it on a sound stage in Hungary, so the actors didn't really do a great job of portraying the deathly cold temperatures they would have endured.

If I was a Hitchcock-like director, I would have blasted freezing air over the actors to make them act accordingly...

The second season of Handmaid's Tale is probably one of the best shows on TV right now.



Super dark and disturbing...

The thing that strikes me about this series is the cinematography. It's more like a movie than a TV show. Beautifully and artistically shot.

I’ve been returning to a favorite show lately: Battlestar Galactica. The Edward James Olmos version. (Love the guy. Saw him for a presentation on campus years ago and had the opportunity to exchange a few words. Brilliantly hilarious.)

It’s aged pretty well. And makes me so disappointed that there hasn’t been a space-based SciFi epic on that scale since. It had the acting. It had the story. It had the music. Impressive CGI for a show of its scale.

We need another good SciFi epic again. HBO maybe. I dunno. Outside of Fringe there have been few SciFi shows of any time that have held my interest the last several years since the end of Stargate Atlantis.

Amazon has recently paid 250 million dollars for the rights to do a Lord of the Rings TV show....



This is huge for a couple reasons...

First, this will be the most expensive TV show in history. Currently "The Crown" is the most costly, and this will be roughly 7 times the budget. Bear in mind that the 250 million is just for the rights. That doesn't take into account the actual production costs. This will be the first billion dollar movie.

It's obvious that Amazon is looking to fill the huge gap that will be left by Game of Thrones... This is a money grab. As a huge LOTR fan, I wonder if this is going to work out.

There is a reason why GOT appeals to pretty much everyone... LOTR doesn't have that.

I'm interested to see how they play this. Apparently, the Tolkien estate still has some creative control so they won't be able to bastardize the IP.

Just watching the 5 part mini series on "Patrick Melrose." It's a five part mini series based on the five novels of Edward St. Aubyns.

Each episode is based on one of each of the novels about an upper class english semi-aristocrat as various times in his life. Lots of family issues and a plethora of addiction type stuff.

The books are highly reviewed so I just started reading them. I'm still in the beginning stages, but the writing is impeccable, ascerbic and witty.



Rotten Tomatoes gave it 89%... the audience scores however gave it 37 % which is very very bad.

Usually when a movie or show gets a high critic score and a low audience score... it means that smart people will probably enjoy it and dumb people will probably not get any of it.

I'm still waiting for the 5th episode. Benedict Cumberbatch is great.... he's fast becoming one of the best actors on Earth.

Plus he rocks an eyepatch...

Few shows maintain such high quality episode to episode, season to season, as BSG. And it very much was a kind of show of the times in a post 9/11 world. Very hard-hitting subject matter. Only one that comes close is Stargate Sg-1 and they did it for damn near 10 seasons. Plus. Katee Sackhoff.

WestWorld has waxed and waned this season. I loved all the philosophical puzzles of season 1. They've kind of run out of those. And I'm not a fan of the Dolores plot this season.
