Anyone else watching this gem? I swear HBO can do no wrong.
Now, I've never seen the original with Yul Brynner, but I'm hooked. The dynamic of how far you can push AI has always been fascinating and I love the inherent problems their creating with said AIs gaining a form of human-esque memory and emotional processing.
And the casts is absolutely loaded. Hopkins. Ed Harris. Jeffery Wright. Thandie Newton who's still as gorgeous as ever.
And... Evan Rache Wood. There's just something... About her.
And the cinematography. Just gorgeous. A parallel of sleek futurism and the Wild West.
Highly recommend.
i am, yes. it's mesmerizing, honestly - the pace is slow, but it's perfect that way, and i love the concept and how the hosts are slowly wakening and evolving and, of course, ERW is awesome. it's eerie when Bernard tells her to talk with emotion during his 'interviews'. Everyone else is really well cast as well. it's kind of cool, every time someone new is introduced, you're never quite sure if they are a host or a guest. I thought Teddy was a guest up until he tried to shoot the man in black in epi 1
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
I usually don't like shows like this, however I'm enjoying this. I can't imagine what will happen.
My question to you...Ed Harris' character is a robot right? My mother claims he's a human but he's not right?
It's very interesting and each week holds my interest.

I am hooked as well, but what a horrible premise if you think too much about it. People are willing to pay 40k a day to do anything they want. Murder, , torture, etc.
Ed Harris is human is my take as well. Last week another guest says to him, "I'm a big fan of your foundation, Sir" or something similar. Harris' character tells him to shut up, he's on vacation.
I have no idea where any of this is going, but I can see it playing out over several season. It remains to be seen if they can keep up interest over a longer time frame. People are going to want more answers.
I also think Anthony Hopkins killed his partner and wonder who is the representative that the company already sent? I'm thinking maybe one of the guests who are coworkers and run into Delores. I have watched each episode more than once. You can gleam things you didn't see on the first pass.
I hope this one lasts, but won't think too much about what people are really capable of and want to do if there were no consequences to their actions.
This show just gets better and better.
I think (I said this on some other thread) that the show is kinda about PTSD, as the robots have subconscious access to those previous memories of and violence and death before their brains are wiped. That the truly horrifying aspect of the set-up.
Dollhouse (LOVED that show) had a similar thing going on.
Ed Harris can't be human because he can survive a gunshot (he could be wearing a bulletproof vest, I suppose). I think Jeffrey Wright is a robot though. His conversations with Evan Rachael Wood are the center of the show. Amazing acting by both.
Wouldn't it be something, if we find out that Anthony Hopkins is also a robot.
With this show, anything is possible.
It's very interesting and very different.

Well, Ed Harris is definitely human, it turns out.
Is he the co-founder of the park who disappeared?
I loved the big orgy palace in the last episode. I can't wait to get the full story on Ed Harris' character. Why does he want to figure out the maze so bad? I'm wondering if he was somehow connected to Arnold. I wonder if Arnold is really dead or possibly has been re-incarnated into a robot that we'll eventually meet. Possibly Arnold is being held prisoner by Dr. Ford. I want to see Delores have a full on nekkid steamy sex scene with Madame Maave.
Fun show that seems to be a big complicated game of "Where's Arnold". Incredible performances by actors and actresses who should receive Emmys for "Best Naked Characters in a Non-Porn Production" Keeps me guessing and love all the nods to the original WestWorld movies. HBO lives up to it's Home Box Office moniker.
I want to do a full on nekkid steamy sex scene with Madame Maave.
Thanks for the reviews, will check this out. Hopefully, it will help me with my Game of Thrones withdrawal.
The Big Orgy Palace simply reminded me or Spartacus or Rome. Seemed out of place to me actually.
But here's what's interesting, curious as to how many men thinking a woman is ok... 40k a day just to fuck like they want to. Pretty interesting to consider the male pysche
The last two episodes were just awesome. So since Ford has been creating his own hosts without anyone else's knowledge, throw out the rules on what a host is capable of. It all depends upon their own programming. Was that new host body being created in Ford's secret lab, by any chance a duplicate of Theresa Cullen?
What I wonder though, is the bathroom conditions. Since it is an old west setting, would they have to use primitive outhouses or have nice modern flushable, sanitary toilets and bathrooms? If I were paying 40K I'd still want my twice a day hot shower, a clean toilet and plenty of Charmin. You know they didn't have Charmin in the old west. Not much paper was available either.
I agree with Buz, the last two episodes were amazing!
I still think Anthony Hopkins is a robot too but will see! Maybe Arnold created him too!
