My only thought is that maybe he wants to get it right this time and show he can handle a serious role with seriously good acting.
But this all presumes, the aim of the next movie is to take the Batman character in a serious way, totally consistent with what he has been viewed as before. (He has also been portrayed as over the top and comic on the TV series.)
I thought he is due to be viewed in a negative light, and all the things we once saw as heroic in him, we are now going to see as villainous. As he said in The Dark Knight, "the hero eventually ends up being hated by his own people." That is what is supposed to happen in the next movie. Ben A might just be the right guy to portray that. I want to see the movie first.

I'm a massive batman fan and i couldnt care less. Everyone acts like the Nolan films werent completely retarded. They were dumb as a dog watching a card trick. They were great but they were still about a man in a bat costume fighting other people in silly costumes. This is just gonna be ( very fucking silly) business as usual. Also, afflecks grown for the better, he's a solid writer director and he put in good performances in Hollywoodland and Argo. Calm down Batfans.

I thought he was pretty good in Daredevil also. The story was just a bit in the lacking department, and too much wire work. The directors cut is a much better movie than the theatrical one.

One thing is, Batman is quite a stoic character, so a great range of acting skills is not exactly necessary to portray him. It will only make a difference when we see him as Bruce Wayne, and if it's a Superman/DC movie, we surely won't see a whole lot of Bruce Wayne anyway.
The only thing I hope is that they don't give the Dark Knight a stupid growling voice this time around.
