I suppose everyone checking this thread has listened to the new Metallica album 72 Seasons by now... Care to share your opinions?

I enjoyed my first listen. It's a solid metal album. They've done better in the past but let's face it, something like The Black Album is always going to be a challenge to live up to, let alone top.

The security cam was supposed to catch porch pirates, but instead it launched Tyler and Wendy on a new erotic journey.

🤘HELLFEST!!!🤘

Just a couple days left... It starts on Thursday this year to accomodate even more bands and fans. So I'll probably be quite 'busy' from June 15th to 18th, watching live streamed gigs from the comfort of my sofa with a cold beer in hand.😋

This year's full line up can be found here: https://www.hellfest.fr/line-up

And like usual Arte.tv will stream some of it... Here's their known schedule:

Thursday:

Code Orange, Today is the day, Poesie Zero, DVNE, Ludwig von 88, Architects, The soft moon, Svinkels, Amenra, Parkway drive, Fishbone

Friday:

Vreid, Less Than Jake, Papa Roach, 1349, Flogging Molly, Machine Gun Kelly, Gogol Bordello, Sum 41, Venom Inc

Saturday:

Beast in Black, Myrath, Arch Enemy, Pro-Pain, Finntroll, Powerwolf, Fau, Within Temptation, Carpenter Brut, The Hu, Municipal Waste

Sunday:

Halestrom, Electric Callboy, Paleface, Holy Moses, Amon Amarth, The Amity Affliction, Benediction, The Ghost Inside, Testament

(And of course there's always a couple of unannounced surprises either streamed live, or at a later date...)

Architects and The Hu are on top of my own 'to watch' list...

That kind of snuck up on me. Last year, I was very aware because I had like three favorite bands (Nightwish, Epica, Blind Guardian) on the bill. But, yeah, The Hu should be a great show. Within Temptation is usually solid on stage. I am fond of Arch Enemy's last album (and their lead singer is Canadian). We'll have to see how my weekend shakes out. Unfortunately, I think it will be a busy one (vs. last year where I managed to watch both Epica and Nightwish live when they were basically back to back).

TBH, I'm much less hyped by the line-up than last year, but it was quite exceptional with the 'post-covid catch-up'... And the bands I was most interested in seeing this year aren't on Arte's schedule unfortunately (Pantera, Crowbar, Clutch, Meshuggah, and Tenacious D.)

I'll have to keep an eye out in the coming months though. Even if they don't stream them all, it seems Arte records almost every band... And sometimes, they air exclusive ones on their TV channel during the summer months, often late at night.

My wife is happier with the schedule, which includes a lot of the bands that she wanted to watch because they remind her of her college years (Sum41, Papa Roach, Less than Jake, Flogging Molly, and Ludwig von 88 [Fr])... She also wants to watch Electric Callboy. I must concede that it might be a fun one, even if I'm not really a fan of theirs. For example, I'd rather listen to Saltatio Mortis' cover of Hypa Hypa than to the original...😋

Regardless, I've always considered such festivals as an occasion to discover new stuff and there are a handful of bands I don't really know about so, who knows? There might be a nice surprise awaiting me... 😉

Not metal metal, but a great song.

Pantera

Yes.

I'm having a laugh right now at the ridiculous outfits people wear in the crowd of the Electric Callboy live at Hellfest... 🤣

Just watched Within Temptation's set at Hellfest 2023 (released on Youtube this morning). Terrific performance by the band.

I love this band. I saw them support Metallica in Madrid in 2011, and I loved them immediately. We see Kiss in Glasgow on Saturday. We have to fly there just for the gig, their last in the UK 😢X

My preference is for doom/stoner metal crossed with 70s prog-rock song-writing (i.e. dynamic, multi-part epics instead of jamming to infinity on a single repetitive riff). I also like my metal with clean melodic (but not operatic - yuck) vocals, or entirely instrumental.

Don't believe everything that you read.

Whoa, the metal thread got bumped. Here's Mexican born singer Marcela Bovio with one take song through of a song by her band Stream of Passion.

I was rewatching Iron Maiden at Monsters of Rock 1992 which I was at and looking through my Maiden pics from Sonisphere in 2014
