I didn't read every post, but I am betting no one mentioned this guy. He was so good that even Jimi Hendrix said he was the best. John Lee Hooker - the biggest bad-ass of the blues, and he had a unique guitar style that got picked up by a lot of rockers
Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar - Pretty much unknown outside of Canada, but if you like blues-rock you should check them out.
Nigel Pulsford and Gavin Rossdale of Bush - They got written off as a Nirvana rip-off, but I hear Thelonious Monk in their earlier albums.
