I had 2 of them
The first one was an eagle.
The second being a bulldog.

My highschool was home of the Cougars.
The cat-like animal, not the attractive older lady.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

We didn't have a macot. Not really a thing around here. Not sure why you'd need one anyway. It's just school.

High schools in the USA all have various sports teams made up of students that represent the school.

My high school featured teams in these sports to compete against other schools:
Boys: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, track & field, golf, tennis, cross country running, wrestling
Girls: soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, track & field, golf, tennis, cross country running

The main team in these sports is called the varsity. In some sports where there are many players there are junior varsity teams, usually for the 9th & 10th graders. You can also throw in the Varsity Cheerleaders that cheered/performed for the Varsity football, and basketball for both boys & girls teams. Then there is the competition cheerleading team.

As well, there is a debate team. Also, the drama department would compete in One Act Play competitions. Many schools also have a mathematics team. There are even Spelling Bee teams.

If any of these teams win enough during the regular season they can earn the chance to compete in the state playoffs until there is one state champion. Of course the competing schools are classified by size, so there are different size classifications. That way schools only compete against schools of similar size to keep the competition balanced.

Some schools, especially private schools, may also have archery or skeet shooting teams, equestrian, swimming, water polo and so forth.

Oh, and I should also mention the band. The Varsity Band. The Varsity Band usually puts on a complex marching halftime entertainment show at varsity football games. The band also competes in band competitions for marching and for concerts. Really great bands get invited to famous parades like the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in NYC or the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.

So each school has a mascot name that is featured by their teams and often on their team logos. It is a very old tradition, dating back into the 19th century in many cases. Well, old by USA standards.
High school? The Terriers.

Which, sadly, was better than my college, who were the "Hatters".

Here in the Netherlands, the main competition between highschools is with their final exam scores and the number of new student registrations each year. It's mainly something the school as an organisation and the government care about, the students not so much. Sporting competitions is not a school thing here. Sometimes schools play sports together, but then it's often a once a year tournament with other schools in the same town, and with teams that are put together for that tournament only. Nothing serious.

Warriors - but the name of the school is also the name of a regional Indian tribe, so it makes sense. The mascot (drawing) was a proud Indian brave, not a caricature with a four-foot feathered headdress or cartoonish like the Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo. Now the Atlanta Braves, with their old mascot, Chief Noc-a-Homa, that was a clever one. Think about it; it's a baseball team, so...

Think that one is gone, perhaps a victim of political correctness.

A ship. A bloody ship! Well, much like LaylaJune, pretty sure that if you looked it up, it would be the only school in the world with that as a theme.
For generations our ancestors fought proudly as warriors against the Jedi. Reclaim our armored past for an unending future.
