I thought that Lush 2.0 gave alerts when someone quotes you, but maybe I am remembering the old site. Should it be, because I don't get them? Certainly other forum software I use does.

If not, then please consider this as a suggestion.

This has been noted and suggested numerous times since the change to L2.0. My understanding is that it is somewhere on the list with no time estimate offered.

Tks. Kis. So I am probably remembering past discussions, then. It is a pretty basic feature in forum software so I am surprised by its continuing absence. If they had used off-the-rack forum software, it would have been there out of the box.

Not Invented Here, perhaps? Or maybe the license model of off-the-shelf (free, not paid) forum software precludes using it for adult content? Since the forum already existed when Lush moved in, perhaps it didn't make sense to repave. I don't know. Just speculating.

I happen to find notification-on-quote an irritating feature, especially when bots hit the site and fake quote everything, creating a glut of potential DOS notifications.

Please browse my digital bookshelf. In this collection, you can find 101 stories, nine micro-stories, and two poems with the following features:

* 26 Editor's Picks, 69 Recommended Reads.
* 15 competition podium places, 9 other times in the top ten.
* 20 collaborations.
* A whole heap of often filthy, tense, hot sex.

Remembering old site and I'd like this option added here, too.

I don't think most licenses are that restrictive. Xenforo has a clause about not using it for illegal purposes but that would be things like kiddie porn and maybe prostitution sites (though that could probably be finessed). I doubt they would allow an adult site on their cloud but if you're buying their self-hosted license and rolling your own, then it's between you and your hosting company.

Question, wouldn't a "heart Like" be considered a quote? Sure, it doesn't take you directly to the specific quote like it did on the old quote system, but it does, show you which post was liked under Interactions.

I will say, if you've allowed your chosen browser access to receive notifications from lush, then the sound and pop-up does come through.

Yes, sometimes it's just a like and no response but, that gives you a reason to check on thread, if you didnt tick the "Watch Topic" option.

Likes work fine, but that's different. They are a whole separate subsystem from quoting in the software, at least if it works like other forum software. So I can see likes working when quotes don't.

My issue with likes is that the alerts are seriously broken. They take me either to the very beginning of the thread or the very end but never the exact post that was liked.

Interestingly, liking and commenting in Groups both generate alerts properly. It seems to be the forums that are the problem.

And notifications for watched threads work fine, which is how I knew you posted this.

Not in my experience. More than half the time responding to a like or quote just opens the Group main page and I have to hit Discuss and scroll down, trying to figure out where it is. When the Interaction page worked, you could at least get some idea of what had been said, but there's no word on when that feature will get fixed.

I'm only in one group so am really not in there much. Perhaps I notice it more in the forums because that's where I mostly hang out. But generally clicking on an alert takes me to the post that generated the alert.

If you watch the topic you will indeed receive a notification of any new posts including quotes.

But that's not what I asked for. What I am describing is getting an alert just for people quoting you and in any thread, not just watched ones, much like we do for likes. It is a common feature of forum and social software that this site and it's non-erotic sibling lack that I miss.

TBH if you aren't following a specific thread, are you even really interested in it enough to be bothered by quoted responses?

Maybe there could be an option at the top of a thread where it gives the option to turn on notifications for quoted replies to your post, but not everyone bothers hitting quote whilst responding in the first place. 🤷‍♀️

This version of Lush is 2.5 years old and this is the first time we (I) have seen it even mentioned.

I seem to write a story every 1.5 years on average.

Quoted notifications were definitely a feature in Lush 1.0. In addition to following a topic, people used it to drag others into a conversation they thought would interest the other person by 'tagging them' with a fake quote.

That practice was arguably a hack to get round the fact we didn't have @mentions.

Would @mentions be a better system than quoting someone? Or an additional feature, perhaps? That way we can draw attention to threads in a few ways.

Watching a topic is certainly one way to be notified, but sometimes you might have thrown your 2 cents in, but don't care enough about it to be notified of every response by everyone. So some form of (opt-in/out) notification might be handy. Whether that's when someone quotes you or @mentions you, or both, is up to whether the developers can implement it in this homegrown forum.

I'm certainly not averse to it, but care does need to be taken that we limit the amount of notifications in case bots take it upon themselves to sign up and @mention or fake quote one or more people and clog the site with notifications.

Somewhere else, I do not recall where, I do advise that the 'notifications' software is being redeveloped for release later this year. Let's see what 'extras/improvements' that brings.

Because I don't want to be following every single thread I post in. I don't need notifications for every single post. But if someone is replying to a post of mine, I would like to know that so I can respond if needed. Fact is, on most boards I am on I follow almost no threads because I can get these notifications. I save follow (or Watch as some software calls it) for threads and forums where getting those updates for every post matters. So the announcement forum on the support site for the forum software I use gets a Watch so I get notified when a new version or patch goes up.

Ideally, both. That lets you call attention to a specific post with a quote/reply but also "ping" someone without responding to a specific post of theirs.
